AUDIENCE
The film's universal appeal comes from these themes:
- A classically constructed adventure story: a heroic struggle to save the weak and helpless and those you love
- Love of nature
- Escapism into a high-flying lifestyle
MARKET SEGMENTS
Early adopter audiences who will strongly identify with the themes and spread the word virally are:
- Women. Professional women, middle-aged women, working moms.

Commercially successful films which have appealed to women are Thelma &
Louise (a middle-aged women buddy flick.) Though Susan Sarandon was already
a star, Geena Davis was arguably boosted into stardom by this film), My Big
Fat Greek Wedding, Absolutely Fabulous (the BBC television series), American
Beauty (with the strange and driven Annette Bening character) and Dancer in
the Dark (a mixed genre film similar to Exit Strategy with pop singer Bjork
playing the lead).
- Environmentalists and activists.

Commercially successful films which have appealed to environmentalists and
activists are Erin Brokovich (Julia Roberts), Never Cry Wolf, Bulworth
(comedy with Warren Beatty), Mighty Joe Young (Charlize Theron and Russell
Crowe), A River Runs Through It (Robert Redford), Silkwood (Meryl Streep),
Safe (sci-fi with Julianne Moore) and 28 Days Later (which was shot with a
low budget on digital video.)
- Anyone who worked in, got rich from, or went broke during, the dotcom boom.

Commercially successful films which have appealed to office workers or young
tech-aware audiences are Office Space (comedy), 9 to 5 (comedy with Dolly
Parton and Jane Fonda), Antitrust (mystery), The Big One, Office Killer (an
indie satire) and Startup.com (documentary) and Paycheck (thriller with Uma
Thurman and Ben Affleck.)
